How Did Little Person Wrestling Get So Popular?

Professional wrestling that involves little people has been around for decades. The wrestlers are typically dwarves or people of short stature. There are wrestling organizations whose rosters consist entirely of little people, like the Micro Wrestling Federation.

The WWE’s notorious Hornswoggle has been the star in many different story lines, usually comical ones. Here you can see a pre-card match for WWE’s 2014 Extreme Rules that was appropriately titled the WeeLC match (rather than a TLC match).

One of my favorite parts of the match is right around the 6:00 minute mark where Hornswoggle takes to the top of a small ladder and everyone begins to cheer him on before he going for a splash onto El Torito.

Is little person wrestling offensive, or is it a medium that shines light onto the little people community?
